This tour begins at 9:00 am, and is ideal for newcomers to the city of Huaraz. This lake is located north of Huaraz (3100 m) and on the way we will stop to visit the cities in the Callejon de Huaylas: Carhuaz, Yungay, and Caraz. On our first stop we will observe the following mountains: the Huascaran (6768m.snm) the highest mountain of Peru, Huandoy, Chopicalqui, Hualcan, and Cup. Near here reach the village of Anta where we find the only airport in the department of Ancash. This airport was built in 1970 so we could get aid to the victims of the earthquake that year.
We start at 8:00 A.M. heading for the ancient archaeological site of Chavin de Huantar. We will pass through the villages of Recuay referred to as the doorway to the Callejon de Huaylas, was this is the first city in the Callejon de Huaylas. It is also a city that still retains its colonial style and was little affected by the earthquake of 1970. Then we reach the rural community of Catac (3500m) which is one of the largest producers of cheese in the department of Ancash. Here we take a detour that takes us to the ceremonial center of Chavin de Huantar. We will see large pastures where locals breed cattle, which feeds throughout the year by the famous Ichu.
We leave the city of Huaraz at 9:00 am to the south visiting the town of Recuay which still retains its streets and houses in colonial style. Then we will see Ticapampa and Catac where we enjoy a coca tea at the known Zoroche. Then we take a dirt road detour to the Pachacoto ravine. We then reach a small lake called Patococha where many wild ducks migrate to. Then we will stop at the Huascaran National Park where we will register to enter. Along the snowy road we will stop to see creeks below Pastoruri. We will see the Puya Raimondi, which has the largest flowers in the world. Then we will see a small lake called Pumapashimin. After that we will see etchings in the rocks and then we will arrive to the bus station (4800m) to depart from the bus and begin our walk to the glacier. The walk will be about thirty minutes and the height of the glacier is 5000m.
This tour starts at 9:00 in the morning and is within the city of Huaraz. We leave the hotel towards the main square where we will be told of its history. Then we travel by vehicle to the main church of the city of Huaraz, Soledad. From there we will go to Jose Olaya, the oldest street in Huaraz, which survived the earthquake of 1970. From there we will see the trout farm where we will learn about trout raised and sold to the local markets and restaurants. Then we go to the Monterrey Hot Springs which is located seven kilometers from central Huaraz in Monterrey. There we will bathe in the medicinal warm waters that also cure arthritis, respiratory diseases, and other conditions. After this relaxing bath we will enjoy a tasty traditional lunch. Then we board our bus back to the city of Huaraz.
